In our earlier article we have seen how to deploy the Windows Phone application to the Virtual device (basically called the Windows Phone Emulator). In this tutorial we will see how to deploy the same application to the Windows phone physical device and see what are the prerequisites to set the device ready to deploy. The physical device must be connected to the development environment through USB cable and the device should be in unlocked state. For testing Windows Phone 8 application, we need to connect the device to the development machine and it will be using the Windows Phone IP Over USB Transport service that will be installed while installing the Windows Phone 8.0 SDK in the development machine. For testing Windows Phone 7.1 application we need to connect to the development machine and we need to install the ZUNE software which is used to connect the device for deployment. Let us see how we can achieve this task step by step, Open Visual Studio IDE in administrator mode and open the project which we created in our previous tutorial as we are going to deploy the same application to the device as shown in the screen below.

Now lets assume that our application is ready and available to deploy to the physical device, to start with first build the application in debug or release mode and select the option from the available target as device from the Standard tool bar in the top ribbon menu as shown in the screen below.

If the device is not connected properly we will get the deployment error in the Error List window while executing the application from Visual Studio as shown in the screen below.

Once the device is connected properly we can deploy the application directly to the device and test the application as a real working model. We can then remove the application by normal uninstall or deletion from the application list.
