In our earlier article today we have seen how easy its to create and deploy a website to Windows Azure using ASP.NET MVC4 with in couple of minutes. Here in this tutorial we are going to see how to create a Word press website using the inbuilt gallery which has the list of third party open source software that can be used easily on Windows Azure.
Let us see the steps on how to create a word press website using the inbuilt Gallery application in Windows Azure. First let us login to the Windows Azure Portal using the link http://Windows.Azure.com with a valid windows Azure credentials. If we don’t have a valid credentials Microsoft has provided option to register and try window Azure for 3 months with free subscription. With this New Meet Azure Edition we can deploy up to 10 websites free of cost for 1 year if we register with the trial subscription of 3 months. [more]
Once we login to the portal we can see the HTML5 based Management portal with the list of available components as shown in the screen below.
Now here we have 3 options, once is Quickly create a website, Create a website with database and finally its from Gallery. We need to select the option From Gallery where we can see the list of available open source applications ready to install as shown in the screen below.
Clicking on From Gallery will list the available Open Source Applications as shown in the screen below. It is basically like a market place where we can download the application and customize it accordingly.
We can select any open source application available in the list, here we will go with Word Press. Click on the –> button at the bottom to proceed further as shown in the screen below. Here we will be providing the Word press DNS name, and option to select a new database or use the existing database as shown in the screen below.
Now click on –> button to proceed with the next steps. Next step is to create a database by providing the database name and the Region to which the database reside as shown in the screen below. Also click on the Legal terms and conditions at the bottom since we are going to use the CLEARDB (MYSQL) we have some terms and conditions that need to be signed (Check for the complete details on the Legal terms and conditions using the link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=248338). Unless and until we agree the legal licenses the submit button will not be activated.
Clicking on the Right button will start deploying the application to the Azure environment and we can see the status as shown in the screen below. At the bottom we have a status bar kind of place where the update and message to end users will be shown in nice looking format as shown in the screen below.
Once the website is deployed completed and everything is ready we can see the status of the website as running and we can use the URL to access the application as shown in the screen below.
Now we can go to the Dashboard and we can see the complete details of the application deployed and also look into the monitoring of how much CPU is used, data is transferred in and out etc. as shown in the screen below. Since we have just deployed the application we see nothing over here(since we tried accessing the application a little bit of traffic is shown), but let us try to access the application and see how exactly it looks like.
Now our application is deployed successfully, we can try to access the application using the URL – http://f5debugwordpress.azurewebsites.net we can see for the first time it points to a page where need to install the word press as shown in the screen below. Just provide the basic information and click on install, this installation is just to configure the application portal.
Clicking on Install Word press will configure and we can see the website up and running as shown in the screen below. We can customize is as usual using the word press admin easily which is straight forward.
That’s it from this tutorial, hope you got something from this tutorial. Keep looking into this blog to get the latest of the updates on the new technologies and how to on each of them in detail until then its bye bye and happy programming!!!

Thanks very nice blog!|
This is the perfect web site for everyone who would like to understand this topic. You understand so much its almost hard to argue with you (not that I actually will need toHaHa). You certainly put a brand new spin on a subject which has been discussed for a long time. Wonderful stuff, just great!|
I'm not sure exactly why but this web site is loading incredibly slow for me. Is anyone else having this problem or is it a problem on my end? I'll check back later and see if the problem still exists.|
