In this article we are going to see how to customize the application to prepare the final build that can be used to deploy the application to the market. Windows Phone application development is made simple by using Visual Studio IDE at the same time the packaging and deployment as well made simple as the VS team works hard to complete the app build and package in simple and easy steps. Visual Studio 2012 IDE has in build option to build the project or the solution which is common across the different type of application that we build and package normally. [more]
Here we will look into the steps that will be used to build the package and use it to ship to the market. Open Visual Studio 2012 IDE in administrator mode and open the project that we plan to customize the build before packaging as shown in the screen below.
Now take into consideration our application is developed completely and ready to deploy, while development the application is focused to be in Debug mode to get the debug information for tracing and while the application is ready to deployment we need to change it to release mode using the option that is available in the top ribbon menu as shown in the screen below.
Making the build option to Release, before building the application first we need to clean the build which removes the unwanted and used references that are temporarily sourced in the project. To clean the application right click on the solution file and select Clean Project as shown in the screen below.
Clicking on Clean solution will start the cleaning process and once its completed let us try to build the package. Right click on the application project in solution explorer and click on Build to start building the application when we are doing first. Else select the Rebuild option to completely rebuild the project as shown in the screen below.
Once the build is successful we can see the output window with the details of the project referenced which are build successful or failed. Now the package will be created and will be available for upload to the market, to access the package navigate to the folder as shown in the screen below.
Use this package to upload to the market or share for the testing which can be tested using the deployment tools that are available with the SDK which we will see in our upcoming articles.
